This means that the qwerty keyboard still remains one of your PCâs most important peripherals.Writing texts in Microsoft Office, editing images in Adobe Photoshop, developing web sites, etc. all require that you can type quickly and effectively. It only takes a second to accidentally select a load of text instead of a word and delete everything. Donât worry, though! Everything can be undone with a quick press of ctrl + z.Here are Superprofâs 10 best keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work on Windows. To put it simply, shortcut keys are useful because they help you to do things more quickly. This might seem obvious, but youâll soon see how useful they can be and how much time they can save you. You've probably noticed that your keyboard layout includes a lot more than just letters, numbers, and a spacebar. Your keyboard has function keys, esc, ctrl, alt, and the Windows key (Command if you're using Mac). They're there for a reason, after all.Check out some coding courses here.If you work in IT, productivity is hugely important. (Source: Jay Kunwar)The digital revolution ha s turned workplaces on their heads. Across the channel, the French journal Sciences Humaines had this to say:âIn the years to come, 42% of jobs are at risk of being transformed by digitalisation. 3 million jobs could be eradicated. Robotisation continues to deeply destabilise the [French] middle classes.âThe same could happen here! Everyone will therefore be required to be familiar with computers and how to operate them effectively if theyâd like to keep working. Mastering shortcuts when interacting with computers is therefore seen as a must for all users. Itâs a quick and easy way to increase your productivity. In fact, knowing the shortcuts can save valuable seconds every time you use them and, over the course of a day, drastically improve how much work you output. From simple operations like opening a window to editing texts (copying, cutting, and pasting), opening windows explorer, placing an image into a text, editing and developing websites, you can use keyboard shortcu ts to reduce the time it takes to carry out a number of different digital tasks.Another important thing about these shortcuts is that if your mouse, trackpad, touchpad, or wheel stop working, you can still operate the computer effectively without them. You can carry out most tasks on your computer using just the arrow keys, escape, enter, ctrl, alt, and the number pad.Not convinced? Hereâs a quick test for you:Do the following operations by just using your mouse, then try it again using mac keyboard shortcuts. You can save around 50% of the time taken by using the latter method.Open your browser.Search something on google.Click on an article.Highlight a paragraph.Copy and paste that paragraph into Microsoft Word (or OpenOffice).Select all and change the colour of the text.Open the file explorer.Choose an image and import it into the text document.Save the file and then export it as a .pdf.Send the file by email to another computer. Not know the shortcuts for any of these? Why not st art with a few computing tutorials for beginners? Here are some of the most important keyboard shortcuts you should learn...The 10 Best Windows Keyboard ShortcutsWhile these shortcuts are incredibly simple, theyâre also incredibly useful and everyone should know them.Copying and PastingInstead of right-clicking and choosing âcopyâ then going to a new part of the document and right-clicking again to choose âpasteâ, you can carry out these operations by holding down the ctrl key (the command key is used on Macs) and pressing:Crtl + cCrtl + vThis is useful for anyone who wants to edit document more quickly. When you copy or cut, the computer saves the text temporarily to the clipboard. (Source: kaboompics.com)Cutting and PastingSo what does ctrl + x do?When you press on cntrl and x, the text or image youâv e highlighted will disappear. A quick press of ctrl + z will undo the last step you made.Useful, isnât it?SearchingThis is a great shortcut if you want to know how many times youâve used a specific word, find a specific part of a text, or see if a text talks about a certain topic:In Windows, youâll need to use the shortcut ctrl + f (for find). You can also use this function in browsers, too. Keep in mind that this isn't the same as the search you use online. This function is used solely to find exact matches within a text or browser window.Select AllRather than scrolling from the very top of a page to the very bottom while left -clicking with your mouse, you can use the keyboard shortcut ctrl + a to select everything. This is really useful for formatting an entire text if you've ended up with a lot of different fonts being used.Opening the Task ManagerDo you need to lock your computer or close a programme thatâs stopped functioning? The famous shortcut ctrl + alt + del will open the dialogue that you need. You can consider the shortcut ctrl + alt + del as your panic button for when your computer starts bugging out.Shortcuts for Managing WindowsIn this day and age, itâs very common for computer users to get lost in the various windows and tabs they have open. Finding the page you want to look at can end up like trying to find a needle in a digital haystack.Weâll save you the price of a private IT tutorial with this little tip - though you might want to consider taking programming courses if you want to delve deeper into the world of computers!Changing WindowsPressing alt + tab will quickly take you to your next active window. If you hold down alt, every time you press tab, youâll move to another window. This is very useful when you have a lot of windows open like your settings, a database, image editing software, webpages, etc. Before you know it, you can end up with too many windows. (Source: snapwiresnaps.tumblr.com)This can save you a lot of time against finding a stack of windows on the task bar.Minimising All Windows and Returning to the DesktopIf you want to go straight back to your desktop, you just need to press Windows + d. This will minimise all windows to the task bar and youâll find yourself back on your desktop. Pressing Windows key + d again will maximise all the windows. This is useful if you end up with tonnes of windows stacked on top of each other.Additionally, simply pressing the Windows button will open the start menu (which is the Windows logo in newer versions).Moving Windows AroundHereâs a shortcut that I like: especially when youâre working with multiple screens. This can be used to move windows around: Windows + Shift + arrow keys (left or right)Create a Virtual Desktop If youâre working on a small screen, like a 10â or 13â laptop, you can create a virtual desktop. A virtual desktop will be created to the right of your current desktop. The command is simple: Ctrl + Windows + d. This means you can juggle several desktops without any of them getting too cluttered. You can navigate between desktops as you wish and remove them when you're finished. As youâve probably gathered, there are plenty of different shortcuts on Windows.A Few More Bonus ShortcutsHereâs a list of other useful keyboard shortcuts:As you can imagine, we havenât included all of them. There are literally hundreds of them...Thanks to shortcuts, you can navigate web pages as quickly as you can regular pages. (Source: Tirachard Kumtanom)Move an active window: Alt + Space Bar + l + arrow keysFullscreen mode: F11Open the file menu: Alt + fChange tab s: Ctrl + 1, 2, 3, etc.Update the page/refresh: F5Delete a file directly without sending it to the recycle bin: Caps lock + delNew tab: Ctrl + tNew file: Ctrl + nPrint: Ctrl + pClose the window: Alt + F4Bold: Ctrl + bItalics: Ctrl + iShow the properties of the selected file: Alt + returnIn the special characters window in Microsoft Word, you can also find the shortcuts for the characters you want to use. This is especially useful when typing in foreign languages as the English keyboard doesnât tend to have accent keys. For example, if you want to put an acute accent on the letter âEâ (like in the words café or cliché), you just need to type: Alt + 144 (on the touchpad). Finally, keyboard shortcuts are essential if you want to work with Photoshop and edit photos. If you want to work effectively, keyboard shortcuts can make both Macs and PCs far quicker than a simple typewriter.Ready to find out how to type faster?

After all, that is where most students will get their first taste of the performing arts. Nonetheless, there are many different pathways for certified teachers to take, whether they decide to opt for a public or private educational establishment, a primary or a secondary school, or at colleges or universities.Remember, if you are looking to find vacancies abroad, the n you may need to look out for roles at 'kindergarten', 'elementary school' or 'high school', particularly in the US and some foreign yet English-speaking territories. You also need to check the prerequisites for becoming a teacher abroad and the licencing you'll need, as some teacher education programs in the UK aren't recognized by other countries as valid certification. This means you will need to get enrolled on another training program to gain further teaching certificates or reconsider your prospective registration or application. Even a placement as a teaching assistant may ask you to qualify in a different way, so eligibility can sometimes be a problem for teachers who want to apply to work in schools in another country.Discover more helpful tips on becoming a drama teacher...Teaching Primary And Secondary School ChildrenIf you have a teacher's certificate or are currently training to become a teacher through a teacher training course in the UK like a PGCE or GTP, then you ma y be wondering what your options are for teaching your specialist subject and developing your teaching career. Most UK schools and colleges will offer Drama as a standalone subject at GCSE and A Level, as numerous exam boards have set out modules in Drama in correspondence with the curriculum. Most Drama teachers working in secondary schools will be required to work full-time to meet the needs of the faculty, but may have the opportunity to job-share or to work part-time if that arrangement suited them.Primary school teachers often teach lessons simultaneously to their classes and therefore will usually be all-rounders, teaching English, Maths, Music Humanities and Sciences. As such, most of these teaching professionals will work around the clock too!If you'd rather stick to Drama as your teaching content but like the sound of having some variety in school life, then you may wish to look into becoming a freelance teacher. This means that you can travel from school to school teaching a bout your specialism and get the opportunity to meet staff in numerous faculties. What criteria do you need to meet in order to teach drama at a public or private school?Happiness for you might be having a varied week, like the life of a freelance teacher. Photo credit: Masa__Israel on VisualHuntTeaching Drama to primary and secondary school aged children is challenging.Since the majority of young pupils won't have gone out of their way to choose and study Drama as an option, like those preparing to study it as a vocational subject, you may be faced with students who either have no interest whatsoever in the content matter or don't like dramatic studies. Meanwhile, it can be very rewarding to see other students blossom whilst completing your classes and realise that Drama is a subject they wish to pursue in their next level of further education.Teaching In Colleges And UniversitiesTeaching Drama to college students, undergraduates or postgraduates can be quite intimidating because of the fact that they are older and know their own minds, however, it can also be a very rewarding job because of the importance and impact that the qualification could have on their lives, like the recognition that they want to be a professional actor or even enter the educational field themselves. Most pupils you will teach will have specifically chosen to follow this path as a degree, whether that be because they had a really inspiring Drama teacher at secondary school, they love the subject, or because they want to qualify with an appropriate endorsement to one day become an actor in the entertainment industry.Other OptionsTeaching Or Setting Up Independent ClassesQualifying as a Drama teacher doesn't mean that you are tied to working for the Department of Education. The great thing about having a discipline like teaching is that you can often apply this to other hiring roles that might bring you more happiness, flexibility and a better work-life balance. Some interrelated jobs tha t do or don't involve working with children (like certain vacancies for the council or independent certified establishments offering pupils alternative certification or licencing) can enable you to awarded with better salaries than school teaching positions. For example, many individuals seek independent Drama classes in the evening and at weekends, whether just for fun or because they want to gain confidence through performing. Perhaps they are looking to be a part of a village play, or they have bigger dreams to tackle the world of entertainment. Either way, Drama lessons can provide them with a basis and specific skills to build upon.Teaching evening or weekend classes may appeal to you because you have a family to support during the day, or because you have a second job that you don't want to or can't afford to give up (let's face it, most people who have just paid for tuition or training will be seeking to earn enough money to pay their loans back!). Furthermore, teaching adult classes might be better for you because of the maturity that participants bring to classes and their eagerness to learn, particularly if they are paying fees to be instructed by someone with a teaching licence. If setting up a business of your own, you may not even need a teaching qualification or Master's degree. However, for your own credibility, being highly trained with appropriate qualifications will really benefit you and your reputation. In addition, if you are to accept under 18s in your classes, all staff will need to have an up to date DBS (Disclosure of Barring Services).Another option that could be available to you is to become a private tutor for school-aged children, a position that mixes pedagogy with flexibility towards working standards (which don't often come hand in hand). Private tutors are high in demand at the moment because of how increasingly hard GCSEs are becoming, and allow you to schedule less formal one-to-one lessons with struggling pupils to help them to understand the subject better and help them to gain a set of basic skills or an increased level of learning. Why teach privately? To receive a better financial reward and still be able to be the positive intervention that gets students passing their exams, sometimes offering them the skills and knowledge they need for their route towards their chosen doctorate.Discover the coolest drama lessons to use in your classes! If you don't like the long days, you could become a private tutor. Photo credit: vancouverfilmschool on Visual huntNot all clients have a poor level in the subject, some may already be working at a very good pace but looking for some extra help because they have a flair for it and want to do the best they possibly can in their exams. The beauty of being a tutor to GCSE or A Level students is that you can be flexible and you can take on as little or as much work as you like, with terms or contracts usually rolling from term to term. If you have recently left a job as a teacher, then you may still have some contacts who can recommend you to parents.Teaching Drama OnlineOn a similar note, you might find that online lessons really take off for you. Whether you start a YouTube channel and get sponsored, or you act as a private tutor by Skype to pupils all over the world, technology means that you can really make this line of work work for you.How easy would it be to do what you love from the comfort of your own home, with no expenses at all? No travel, no phone bills, no holiday deductions (with great deals on roaming, you could even work when abroad if you really wanted to!).What's more, being a mobile teacher opens you up to so many more pupils around the globe so there is endless work to be found. Even if you have tutor jobs for pupils from Japan, you can get around the time difference issue because you can work from your home office whenever you want. With technology so cheap and easy, you could use Skype to tutor pupils all over the world! Photo credit: diane horvath on Visual HuntTeaching Drama In Other EstablishmentsMany people, even those with qualified teacher status, forget that there many different avenues they can choose to go down with their teaching degree. For example, places like children's hospitals or hospices, which care for kids with life-changing or life-threatening conditions, are in need of teachers to help their patients to continue with their education goals. Not only are lessons important to make them feel like normal children or teenagers, they are also a great way of distracting them from any negativity in their lives. What better subject to teach these children than Drama, where they can completely lose themselves in a play or feel liberated by portraying a fascinating character?Similarly, nursing homes might also call on the help of qualified Drama teachers to set up activities for their patients to participate in week in, week out.Discover more excellent reasons to become a drama teacher...In The UK Or Abroad? The question of where you work really is up to you. If it is new challenges and exciting opportunities that you are keen to find, then teaching at an international school like those found in Dubai or Thailand might be a great choice for you.On the other hand, if you are a home bird and are looking to make your life easier, then a job in your local school (it could even be an establishment that you attended as a child with fond memories) or a job that makes the rewards of teaching more about you, like being a self-employed tutor, could be your best bet.As previously mentioned, with technology being so advanced and knowledge being such a valuable skill (one that people will pay good money for), your options as a teacher really are endless.

Tutorfair Dyslexia Training Day
Tutorfair Dyslexia Training Day âGreat starter. Just leaves you wanting more!â 25 of our top tutors received top-notch training on how to best-serve students with dyslexia. They spent the day with British Dyslexia Association instructor Brenda Ferrie learning about what itâs like to have dyslexia, how students with dyslexia learn, and how to support these students in a one-to-one context. Tutors who attended our first ever dyslexia training day teach everything from English, literacy and foreign languages, to maths and science. They feel more confident and more informed about their studentsâ needs. One of the key takeaways from the day was the importance of early intervention for students with learning difficulties, and the serious impact that a tutor can have on a childâs future by shaping how they approach learning for life. Our tutors know how to play to the strengths of dyslexia, in addition to addressing weaknesses. For example, while dyslexia is associated with auditory, memory, and speed problems, it is also associated with better than average visualising, lateral thinking, verbal communication and problem solving skills. As such, tutors learned that processes, such as maths, should be taught with visuals rather than oral explanations. Reading and spelling should be taught orthographically, not just phonologically. The black text helps us understand how difficult reading can be if you had dyslexia. (The red text is the interpretation) Tutors are also familiar with common signs of dyslexia, something they may be in a better position to spot than a classroom teacher. Students with visual troubles may rub their eyes, complain of their eyes being tired, or cover one eye while trying to read. Students may, more generally, struggle to recall instructions, or doing things in order (as sequencing is difficult). To address this sequencing difficulty (trouble putting things in order), tutors were given a very useful planning strategy. By creating a diagram with 6 boxes, and labelling them âstart, Nextâ¦.Endâ, tutors give students the space to write down ideas as they occur, rather than forcing students to think in order from beginning to end. This allows students to hold on to and use their creative ideas instead of losing a good idea because they didnât think of it at the âright timeâ. This visual lay-out also allows students to easily see when their plan is complete, or what has yet to be done. Armed with specific strategies and a deep understanding of the causes and processes of dyslexia, our tutors are prepared to give students the support and knowledge they need to make the most of their future and fully access their education today, tomorrow, and for life. âThis morning gave me unexpected insight into living and learning with dyslexia. I now have increased awareness and understanding of how it might feel to be coping with learning with dyslexia. For this reason alone the session was rewarding and well worth attending. Thank you for arranging this for us.â âThank you for organising this; having access to Continued Professional Development through Tutorfair is definitely something that will make me recommend you to parents looking for a tutor/fellow teachers looking for tutoring work.â âA real eye opener for me as I...am coming across it more and more and so this session was invaluable. Volunteers With Heart Jim, Denise and Walker Ratchford Volunteers With Heart: Jim, Denise and Walker Ratchford Volunteers With Heart: Jim, Denise and Walker Ratchford April 29, 2015 Volunteering with Heart Math Tutoring is a family affair for The Ratchfords. Denise and Jim Ratchford are members of Social Venture Partners Charlotte, which helped launch Heart in 2010, and alumni of Wake Forest University. The husband and wife became partner-tutors last fall at Billingsville Leadership Academy, where they tutor two second grade students on Mondays (Denise) and Wednesdays (Jim) at lunchtime. Their son Walker, a full-time student at UNC Charlotte, started in January, âafter hearing us talk about how much we enjoyed it,â said Denise. Why do you all volunteer? âWe all love to work with children and believe that early intervention and one-on-one teaching pay big dividends in a childs education.â What are some of your favorite moments from working with the students? We play card games to reinforce the math skills the children are learning, and some of my favorite moments are when competitive natures come out. They forget they are learning and working but just want to win! Also, its great when youve built a relationship with a child and they share stories about their families and whats going on in their lives. Theres a level of comfort there, and real learning can begin when theyre at ease. What would you tell someone who is thinking about becoming a volunteer? âHeart makes it so easy for volunteers to tutor. They have all the materials for you, and the lessons are easy to understand. Its so rewarding to invest in another person. As the children progress, they are so proud of themselves, and its great to observe that and be a part of it. With a firm foundation, theres no telling how far theyll go! *** Thank you to the Ratchfords for their dedication to students at Billingsville! At Billingsville 74 weekly volunteers are helping more than 60 Heart students in grades 1- 5 gain foundational math skills and enthusiasm towards academics. Want to volunteer? Heart Math Tutoring will need more volunteers for the 2015/2016 school year! With a commitment of one hour per week, community members can help a struggling student gain the skills and confidence he/she needs for long-term success. What to Consider When Deciding Between Two Job Offers
What to Consider When Deciding Between Two Job Offers Photo by JD Mason on Unsplash Outline what you are looking for in a job Everyone has a wish list or at least a few ideas of what they would want in their ideal job position an easy way to start out your decision is to outline what exactly you are looking for in a job. This can serve as somewhat of a guideline of what to look for in the two job offers you are deciding between. You can list out the obvious features that most people would think of: ideal pay, location, hours, and benefits like health insurance and vacation time. Think of what kind of expectations are placed on you when you accept the position. Are you working an entry-level job where you are just going to be making copies and doing coffee runs? Or are you going to be expected to already have an advanced skill set coming into the job? Pick the job that will give you the amount of work (and pressure) you want and are willing to accept. Something that isnt often considered, especially with people so worried about their salary, is the type of work environment that each job offers. Between every person, the ideal work environment can differ vastly and its important to consider each job offers work environment before accepting because it can affect how you view each job. For example, if you prefer to work best in a collaborative environment with friendly coworkers, you wont want to be accepting a job offer that has you confined to your own cubicle and crunching numbers. Or if you prefer to rely on yourself, consider what your job description entails and the type of tasks you will be expected to perform on a daily basis. Where can this job take you? This question is especially important for recent college graduates considering their first full-time job post-graduation. You most likely wont be working at your first job for the rest of your career, so it is important to consider where each job offer can take you career-wise before accepting. Consider the type of work you are expected to do in the position and how that will help you build experience for later in your career. Working at a larger-known company may sound more appealing, but if you are only going to be going on coffee runs, you may be better off accepting a job offer from a smaller company that is willing to work with recent college graduates and give them experience. You dont want to stay stagnant once you take either job offer, so try inquiring what the possibilities for upward mobility or increases in pay are. If you expect to stay at the job for long, or maybe each job offer isnt quite offering what you want in terms of experience or pay, possibilities to improve either one can make an initial job offer much more appealing. When you think of the position that comes with each job offer, how does it contribute to your overall career? It can be a good starting point a stepping stone until a better offer comes along, offering you hands-on experience in your field, networking opportunities, or another few lines on your resume. Think of your ideal endgame situation and what kind of company or position you want to end up at in the peak of your career. Think of how each job position affects your ideal path. Do you get a lot of hands-on work with one job, but have low pay or a less-than-ideal location. Or are you going to be receiving a good starting salary but not be given the type of work you need? Its important to define what you are willing to give up in order to get places prior to accepting any job offer. No job is going to be perfect, so dont burden yourself with thinking that the job offer you are going to be taking is going to be the one to make or break your career. Remember to take your individual preferences into consideration when deciding between two job offers and that you alone have the power to choose what job offer is best for you.
